Reading at Four Mile
In March, four mile K-6 students and staff were invited to explore the hilarious "hands-on" books by Julia Cook, a former teacher and school guidance counselor. Cook is the recipient of several book awards including the AEP (Association of Educational Publisher) Distinguished Achievement Award. She interweaves her books with discussions about the writing process. Among the titles Cook shared were My Mom Thinks She's My Volleyball Coach, but She's not, My Mouth is a Volcano, SCOOP, and I am a booger, treat me with respect. Crimefighting dogs Jake and Angus stole the show, however, as Cook shared Scoop with the students. SCOOP is an acronym for: Be Smart, Use Your Call List, Zero Talking, Keep Others Out of your Personal Space, Pair up.
"Just want to tell you that my students and I LOVE your books! We really enjoyed your presentation earlier this year!" --Becky
